Team Amani X Africa Rising – Intercontinental Series
The Intercontinental Series is a C level ride organized by riders from Team Amani as a training tool to connect cycling clubhouses across the African continent. The route follows the Out and Back Again course and is led by Mitch Lane and swept by Karolina Chelminiak.
The route is roughly 40 kilometers and includes two hills and three sprints. You want a great training ride? This is it! Want to ride alongside some of the future stars of the peloton? You’ve come to the right place! This ride has a long flat intro and hits the hills in the latter part of the ride. The leader will hold a steady pace of 3.0 w/kg on the flats while the sweep holds 2.0 w/kg. Challenge yourself on the two KOM’s as we ramp it up to 4-4.5 w/kg with the sweep at 2.5-3 w/kg.
Our goal is to stay as a group (or two) on the flats, work hard on the hills and regroup on the descents. We will break into a couple of different groups, so find your pace and grab a wheel. If you are feeling strong, pull a few friends across the flats to the hill!
The ride takes about an hour and fifteen to an hour and a half to complete.
So who are Team Amani and Team Africa Rising? We are two organizations working together to facilitate access to the sport of cycling for athletes across the African continent. With our Ride Online campaign, we are seeking to outfit the most competitive cycling clubs in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, (to name a few) with smart trainers and Zwift licenses so that their riders may compete and showcase their abilities internationally, despite the global pandemic.
