Zwifters at Kona: Lucy Charles

Every October, more than 2,000 of the top triathletes in the world descend on Kona to fight it out in the most competitive tri on the planet.Participants must swim 2.4 miles (3.8 km), ride 112 miles (180 km), and run a marathon (26.2 miles/42 km). A significant amount of these pro and amateur athletes train with Zwift for the event. Here are their stories.

Lucy Charles

Name:

Lucy Charles (Professional Triathlete from Hertfordshire, UK)

Level on Zwift:

24

Watopia, Richmond or London:

London

Free ride, race or workout:

I use workouts mostly as I have specific goals for most sessions. If I want to do something less structured, I’ll do the occasional free-ride or race.

What tunes do you Zwift to:

I generally listen to random mixes, but there always seems to be some Kings of Leon in there somewhere.

How many times have you raced in Kona:

Once. As an amateur, I won the 18-24 category.

Hopes for Saturday:

I’ve had some amazing results this year. My training in the build-up to Kona has been as good as it could be, so I am hopeful of doing myself justice on race day.

On Sunday after the race I’ll mostly be:

Packing probably, because I leave on Monday. But, it will be great to get some relaxing time with my parents, grandparents and best friend who came over to watch me race.
