Zwifters Make a Difference

ON 28 octobre 2019 by Nat Tschoban

Our world is beautiful, yet far from perfect. And while we focus on fitness at Zwift, we’re always on the lookout for new ways to use our platform for good.

Since Zwift’s early days, we have supported our community and various organizations to fight poverty, disease, and injustice around the world. It’s in our DNA.

This November we’re taking on a new cause, supporting the Movember movement and their efforts to stop our fathers, brothers, and friends from dying too young.

“Movember is a globally recognized organization doing great work to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and prevent suicides,” says Eric Min Zwift CEO and Co-Founder.

“These are serious issues that affect not only those who have been diagnosed, but also those around them: families, friends, and co-workers. Our Movember activation continues our legacy of working with great charitable initiatives such as Qhubeka, Athlete Ally and Fight Against ALS. This is the start of a bigger year-round charity support initiative, so stay tuned for more events in support of great causes over the next 12 months,” continues Min.

A Look Back

While November’s focus is Movember, we’re proud to have hosted hundreds of events to raise awareness and funds for a diverse group of worthy causes. Here’s a quick look at some of the key charity initiatives the Zwift community has embraced since we launched.

  • Mobilizing pedestrians with World Bicycle Relief and Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka
We hosted the first “Ride On for World Bicycle Relief” ridathon in 2015, with Zwifters answering the call and putting in massive miles in support of World Bicycle Relief’s efforts. This event has happened every year since, raising over $400,000 to get bicycles where they are most needed. We’ve also partnered with Team DiData for Qhubeka on multiple events since 2016, with more than 1,750 bikes being directly funded by Zwifters to help communities in need.
  • Fighting ALS with André Greipel
The ALS Challenge series of Zwift events have helped fund the search for a cure for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the US. Since 2017, Zwifters have taken the opportunity to ride with André and other World Tour pros to raise both awareness and funds that accelerates research to combat ALS.
  • Rolling Out the Rainbow Carpet
In June 2019, we celebrated our first LGBTQ Pride Month, with our Pride On series of group rides. Zwifters rained down the rainbow “Pride On” thumbs during these events, and we put our money behind that support with a donation to Athlete Ally.
  • And more!
Zwifters Climbed for Costa and supported Team Ramsay and GOSH as part of our Ride with Reason 2018 series. And, most recently, our community participated in a series of rides to benefit BikeMS.

Up Next – Movember

Our Movember 9.9 Mission launches November 1st, calling all Zwifters to ride or run (or a combination of both) 9.9 hours in support of the 9.9 million fathers, brothers, husbands, friends, and coworkers living with prostate cancer.

Finish the mission to unlock a Mo’ kit to celebrate your efforts and support of your community and a global cause. The more you complete, the more mustaches you earn!

When 10,000 Zwifters finish the mission, we will donate $25,000 to the Movember charity.

All are welcome! Learn more at www.zwift.com/movember

Looking Ahead

We’re not slowing in our support of worthy causes. Watch out for more opportunities with Zwift to help others in the coming months!
