DESCRIZIONE EVENTO
This is a TRAINING event, category C, with a yellow beacon leader. The beacon leader will ride up to a 2.5w/kg pace average wherever possible. The beacon may employ the fence at times.
Please look out for this training ride on Sundays, every week, at 11.40am UTC in the UK, 6.40am EDT in the US, and at 12.40 CET in Europe. Use #6Points to search for our rides on the Zwift website.
This weekly 6Points Mallorca Sunday training ride is intended to provide a challenge for riders, and is open to all timezones. You should ride as a group, following the instructions of the beacon ride leader(s) for any sprints, intervals and spicy segments, regrouping after each when requested. All our group rides also have a closing minirace, to start from behind the beacon. The fence may be used to control starts for these spicy sections.
About the in-real-life 6Points Mallorca
The ultra-distance 6Points Mallorca real life cycling event is ridden around Mallorca and raises money for charity, currently supporting Asdica, who work on behalf of disabled children. Now in its third edition, it has already earned a reputation as a fun but tough event that epitomises cycling at its best. 6Points has raised over €66,000 for charities in this way over three years.
6Points is an unsupported ride around the whole of the beautiful island of Mallorca, covering well over 420 kms, climbing 7500 metres and touching the four compass extremities of the island, as well as the highest and lowest points of the island, over 3 days. See https://6pointschallenges.com/Opens a new window for more about our irl events.
Like our Zwift group ride, 6Points Mallorca is NOT a race. It is an opportunity to participate in a challenging ride, with like-minded cyclists, to enjoy Mallorca’s diverse beauty and the friendship and camaraderie of fellow riders. 6Points supports sustainable cycling, whose riders care for the environment and practise courtesy to fellow road users.
We have organized our 6Points Zwift training ride series to suit what we believe is relevant to bike riders’ interests in performance and improvement, bearing in mind the irl 6Points Mallorca challenge which is also ridden in groups with controlled pace.
The 6Points Zwift group ride
As we expect our riders to be able to ride up to 100 miles at or around a 15mph average on our irl (in-real-life) rides, such steady riding members should be comfortable with Zwift Category C. Beacon leaders communicate via Zwift message (always) and/or Discord (sometimes) to vary the pace to allow for sprints, intervals and optionally a mini-race towards the end of the rides, with regrouping after each sprint. Make as much use of drafting as you can, for more effective sprinting and rest intervals.
During the ride, the beacon will announce any sprints, and the ride will finish with a minirace to the end of the ride of between 3kms and 8kms depending on the course. The Beacon will announce this too.
Results (the finishing order, relevant to the minirace which we will all start together) can be seen at the end of the ride on screen, and we will, in common with many other ride series, publish your results on zwiftpower.com too, based on the ride category C.
All bikes and Power-Ups (PU) are allowed, but it is better not to use TT bikes to ensure drafting. Please add 6Points (X) to your Zwift name to allow your ride presence to be recognized, where X is your own ride category. Categories in Zwift are related to your Functional Threshold Power (FTP); use your FTP and then divide by your weight in kg to get the W/kg that applies to you.
On this ride series, all riders and categories are welcome, but bear in mind that rides are designed for:
Category C: 2 W/kg to 3 W/kg FTP. The beacon leader will ride to 2.5w/kg pace average or below.
PLEASE NOTE: Strava data for our rides must be open (not private or hidden). Please use a heart rate monitor so that we can monitor correlated power and heart rate to help assure fair riding.
