BCS: Mo Farah – Athlete Highlight

In your own words, what does “We, not me” mean to you?

I think often as an athlete, you are selfish because you think about yourself. Because at the line up, what you put in is what you get out—I’ve always said that. But don’t forget the people who you rely on. You know, your family, people who have helped you along the way. And I think if it wasn’t for those people, you would have never gotten to the position you find yourself. Alone, it’s not possible. Together, it is. We can make changes. We can make it better. As long as we do it together.

What was something inspiring about your PE teacher that kept you motivated and moving forward?

I think it’s hard to find people like that. But he saw the potential in me and what I could do. He encouraged me and took me down to our local club and introduced me to the sport and opened my eyes. If it wasn’t for him going out of his way, taking me, I wouldn’t be in this sport. I wouldn’t have found it. And now, it’s a matter of asking myself ok, now what can I do?

I think in terms of my kids and training partners and the people I’m close with, I take it upon myself to guide them when I can. And then allowing them to think for themselves.
