Getting To Know Zwift’s Newest Group Workout Leader, Coach Hendy

ON October 21, 2017 by Andrew Burke

Even by pro peloton standards, Greg Henderson knows grit. The New Zealand native nabbed his first national championship jerseys in time trials, races that are nothing if not tests of exploring your own limits, and digging deeper than the competition.

Intimidated? Don’t stop reading yet. If you’ve been Zwifting, you have more in common with him than you know. They take place Wednesdays at 11 am PST/8 pm BST on Zwift.

“Zwift is great for a variety of reasons, but my favorite is you can get such a great workout in a limited amount of time. You don’t have to worry about cars or street signs. You can just pedal. Also, the community is very strong and helpful,” says Henderson.

Hendy raced pro for 20 years and finishing 11 grand tours, competing in five Olympic Games. Successful on both the road and track, winning 17 National Championships, a World Championship, as well as stage wins at prestigious races like the Vuelta a España, Paris—Nice, and Tour of California.

Hendy started coaching in 2014 and was just named Endurance Performance Director for USA Cycling.

Coach Hendy

Hendy is training us Zwifters during Wednesday night group workouts. Each session will be different, some focusing on building endurance, others concentrating on propagating power, and they’ll be a few about increasing FTP. Not sure if you’re ready? Watch one of his latest workouts and see how he keeps you going.

Hendy is a big believer in the maxim, “Misery loves company” but he also believes in the contagious power of our online cycling community. “I am really excited to get a bunch of people together, and push them and have a chance to talk about it, and ask how everyone is doing between each interval. It will be nice to have everyone working together and supporting each other to get more fit.”
