Writing History Starts Today
The Hilly Route is Zwift’s first route on Watopia. And today is the first day of the inaugural Virtual Tour de France. Hello history!
Both men’s and women’s races are four laps long. Each lap is 5.7 miles (9.1 km).
Racers will start on Watopia’s pier, in an area that feels a lot like Nice, France (the original grand depart of Tour de France 2020) before heading towards a short, punchy section called “The Esses.” After the last hill, it’s sprint time across the JWB Bridge! A short section of cobbles at the Italian Villas is followed by the 1.6 mile (2.5 km) Reverse KOM with a 1.8% average gradient. And the KOM descent is fun and fast: 0.6 miles (1 km) with a supertuck friendly -5.5% average grade. The lap ends with a 300m flat sprint, which is typically a pack dash.
There are ten points locations: King/Queen of the Mountain and finish-line sprints. These mini-races happen every lap. Of course, racers also earn General Classification points at the end of the race.
