Most of us know about pro cyclist André Greipel and his impressive race resume. Across his career, he’s racked up 11 stage wins at the Tour de France, 7 at the Giro d’Italia, and multiple appearances on the top step of the podium at one-day races and classics.
But fewer know about his personal connection to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a disease commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in the US. Incurable, ALS impacts neurons controlling voluntary muscles, progressing towards paralysis and, ultimately, death. In 2017, Greipel’s mother passed away from this debilitating brain disease after an initial diagnosis in 2013.
Greipel seeks to carry on his mother’s legacy by helping the 450,000 people (according to the ALS Therapy Development Institute) ALS affects worldwide to find a cure. He’ll lead us on a group workout on Zwift, to raise both awareness and proceeds that will accelerate research to combat ALS. 100% of the donations generated will fund research at the DZNE e.V. (Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen or German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases). Donations are not mandatory to attend the workout.
Join Greipel February 10th as we ride and raise funds for ALS research. Riding with pros doesn’t happen every day, so be sure to chat with Greipel and listen as he shares his story. Plus, those who complete the workout will unlock the in-game “Fight ALS” jersey. Wear it with pride. More details below.
