Return To Running Training Plan

By Malindi Elmore

When you are ready to start running, either for the first time or after a break, having a well designed out plan can make a big difference for your comeback. Malindi Elmore, a professional distance runner from Canada, Zwift Ambassador, Olympian, Coach and Mother, has offered her knowledge and expertise to help you get running.

Her Own Return

As a competitive track and field athlete, Malindi represented Canada at the 2004 Olympics in the 1500m and raced internationally until 2012 when she hung up her spikes.  However her retirement did not last long, before she jumped into the world of long course triathlon, with a sub 9 hour Ironman debut.  Later, in 2018, after her 2nd baby was born, Malindi wanted to tackle a new challenge and returned to running, and set a Canadian marathon record of 2:24.50 in her second marathon.

Now, at age 41, Malindi recently took part in the Tokyo Olympics, representing Team Canada, where she finished 9th in the Marathon. When she is not competing or taking care of her two busy little boys, she is helping other people achieve their own goals.  She created the Return to Running training plan on Zwift to provide new runners of all ability levels a structured and safe program to build mileage slowly and safely and return to normal run activities after 8 weeks.

Inspired to get back to it? Malindi offers tips, advice and personal experiences to help new runners, runners returning from injury, and or pregnancy return to running safely.
